MLMM, Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie

Your words this week are:

machine, tremble, quietly, detect, firm, hurt, noise, hurry, pace, pressed, let, music.

MLMM Monday Wordle #495

The Rhythm of My Own Heart

The world had become a machine,
turning faster than I could follow.

Everywhere, there was noise,
voices telling me to hurry,
to keep up,
to move at someone else’s pace.

But my hands began to tremble,
and the weight of everything
pressed against my chest.

I sat before the piano,
my fingers resting on the keys.

For a moment, I did nothing.

Then, quietly,
I played a single note.

And another.

The music filled the room,
soft enough to soothe
what the world had managed to hurt.

There was no need to explain,
no need to pretend,
no need to be anything
other than myself.

I could detect the familiar rhythm
returning beneath my fingertips.

Slowly, my breathing settled.

The ground beneath me felt firm again.

And somewhere between the notes,
I remembered something
I had almost forgotten.

I do not have to move
at the speed of the world.

I can let the music carry me
until I find my own rhythm again.

Because sometimes,
the most beautiful thing
we can do for ourselves
is simply stop—

and listen to the music
of our own hearts.

Wonderful piece Maggie. I can so identify. Music has always been my safety valve, my sanctuary, my piece of mind. I would sit and play for hours, letting the music flow from my fingers. My dad always knew when I was worried or something was on my mind, not by what I played, but the way I played it. My music has seen me through some traumatic times. Thanks for joining in with the MLMM Wordle again this week.

Thank you so much, Di. 💜 Your memory of your dad recognising your worries through the way you played really touched me. Music has always been my sanctuary too, a place where I can express what words sometimes cannot. Whether I’m playing the piano, writing lyrics, or simply listening, music has carried me through so much. It’s wonderful how something so personal can connect us through a few notes. 🎹
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory with me. 💜
