What’s a moment in your life that made you feel truly alive?
My first reaction to this question was:
There are so many.
How do you choose just one moment from an entire life?
I’ve had adventures, fallen in love, travelled, stood beside the sea, ridden horses, laughed until my stomach hurt, created music and experienced moments that I’ll never forget.
But when I really thought about it, my answer became surprisingly simple.
My five children. 💜
I can’t choose one moment because there were five.
Five times when I looked at a tiny new human being and realised:
You’re here.
Five completely different children.
Five different births.
Five different chapters of my life.
And five times when the world suddenly became both much bigger and much smaller at the same time.
Before becoming a mother, I knew what love was.
Or at least I thought I did.
Then somebody placed my first baby in my arms.
And suddenly there was this little person whose entire existence mattered to me more than I knew was possible.
Then came another.
And another.
And eventually five.
You might think that by child number five you’d be used to it.
You aren’t.
Love doesn’t get divided into five smaller pieces.
Somehow, it expands.
Each child brought something different into my life and taught me something different about myself.
They’ve made me laugh.
They’ve frightened the life out of me.
They’ve made me proud.
They’ve tested my patience.
They’ve made me worry at three in the morning.
And they’ve given me moments of happiness that couldn’t possibly be measured.
Motherhood hasn’t always been beautiful photographs and perfect memories.
There have been sleepless nights, illnesses, arguments, teenage years, mistakes, worry and those wonderful moments when you wonder whether your children have collectively decided to test the limits of your sanity. 🤣
But that’s part of being alive too.
Feeling everything.
Love.
Fear.
Joy.
Frustration.
Pride.
Hope.
Sometimes all before breakfast. 😂💜
So I can’t give WordPress one moment.
I’m breaking the rules again.
I give you five.
