Have Mercy, I Haven’t Had My Coffee Yet ☕😂
There are certain things you should never ask a person to do before their first coffee.
Climb a mountain.
Make an important decision.
Have a meaningful conversation.
Or answer the question:
“Why are you grumpy?”
I wasn’t grumpy.
I was simply operating without caffeine.
There is a difference.
I sat outside holding my favourite mug with both hands, waiting for the coffee to perform whatever miracle it performs every morning.
The mountains were quiet.
The sun was beginning to rise.
A cat wandered past without acknowledging my existence.
Bella looked at me expectantly.
My husband asked something from inside the house.
“What?”
He repeated it.
I stared into my mug.
“Ask me again in ten minutes.”
“Why?”
I looked towards the heavens.
“Mercy, please.”
😂
The first sip arrived.
Nothing.
Second sip.
Still questionable.
Third sip.
Somewhere deep inside my brain, a small generator coughed into life.
By halfway through the mug, words had returned.
By three-quarters, I could remember what day it was.
And by the bottom, I was prepared to participate in civilisation.
My husband appeared again.
“So, about what I asked earlier—”
“I don’t remember what you asked.”
“You told me to ask again in ten minutes.”
“Yes, but that was pre-coffee Maggie. She doesn’t retain records.”
He shook his head.
I poured another cup.
Because some people wake up ready to move mountains.
I prefer to sit and look at mine until the coffee kicks in.
The mountain can wait.
Human interaction can wait.
But the mug?
The mug is non-negotiable
