What’s a cultural tradition from your country that you love?

First I have to decide which country we’re talking about. 🤔😂
I was born in the UK, grew up in Norway, have Greek roots, and have lived in the Canary Islands for fifteen years.
So… pick a country, Maggie. 🤣
For this prompt, I’m choosing the Canary Islands, the place I now call home. 🇮🇨💜
One tradition I particularly love is the romería.
The traditional clothes, decorated carts, music, food, dancing and people coming together create such a wonderful atmosphere.
There’s something beautiful about seeing traditions passed from one generation to another rather than existing only in history books.
And then we have Carnival.
Of course, carnival itself isn’t uniquely Canarian, but the Canary Islands certainly know how to make it their own.
The costumes.
The floats.
The music.
The colours.
People dancing in the streets.
For a while, ordinary streets are transformed into one enormous celebration.
I think that’s what I love most about both traditions.
They bring people together.
Different generations celebrate side by side, music fills the streets, and for a little while everyone becomes part of something bigger than themselves.
After fifteen years here, these aren’t simply traditions I watch from the outside anymore.
They’re part of the culture of the place I call home.
Although I’m still claiming Norway when someone asks me about Christmas traditions.
And perhaps Greece when the food questions arrive.
I’m keeping my options open.
Home isn’t always one place on a map. Sometimes it’s made from all the cultures and traditions we’ve carried with us along the way.
