QUALM • QUIP • QUEUE

I joined a queue thinking it would move quickly.

Optimistic.

Clearly, I had learned nothing from life.

Ten minutes later, I began having a tiny qualm—

was this line actually moving, or had we all simply agreed to stand here forever?

Then, from somewhere behind me,someone made a perfectly timed quip:

“At this point, we’ll all know each other by Christmas.”

Honestly?

Nothing bonds strangers faster than shared suffering in a queue.
