Critters

Critters.

Such a small word
for creatures
that quietly share our world.

The lizard that freezes
mid-step on a warm stone.
The cat who claims the sunniest square
like it paid rent.
The dog who believes
every return home
is a miracle.

Critters don’t argue politics.
They don’t scroll headlines.
They don’t overthink.

They eat.
They nap.
They watch.

Sometimes I envy that.

There is wisdom
in a creature that trusts instinct.
In paws that land
without hesitation.
In eyes that look at you
without agenda.

Critters remind me
that life is not only
big questions
and heavy meaning.

Sometimes it is simply
breathing beside something warm.

And that
is enough.
