Hostile

Not all hostility shouts.
Some of it whispers.
It lives in dismissal,
in silence,
in the way care is withheld.

I have learned that a body can turn hostile,
that systems can be hostile,
that kindness is not always the default setting.

Still, I choose not to become what harms me.
I soften where I can.
I protect where I must.

Survival is not surrender.
It is the refusal to let a hostile world
decide who you are.
