The Grass Is Always Greener
“Mum?”
“Yes, darling?”
“Why is the grass greener on the other side?”
“Because you’re standing on this side.”
“But what if I went over there?”
“Then the grass would be greener over here.”
The calf considered this carefully.
“So, wherever I go, the grass is greener somewhere else?”
“Precisely.”
“That doesn’t seem fair.”
“Welcome to life, sweetheart.”
The calf sighed, took another mouthful of grass, and looked thoughtfully at the neighbouring field.
“Mum?”
“Yes, darling?”
“Do you think the farmer would notice if I borrowed his lawnmower?”
His mother stopped chewing.
“Why?”
“Well, if I can’t have greener grass, I might as well have a shorter lawn.”
And somewhere in the distance, a farmer wondered why his lawnmower had gone missing.
