For dVerse Poets Pub – Where Melissa is our host.

Welcome to Tuesday Poetics here at dVerse Poets Pub. I’m your host, Melissa, from Mom With a Blog.

For today’s prompt, I’d like us to explore some of the landscapes Schiele brought to life in his paintings. Choose one of the artworks in this post, and compose a poem in any form of your choosing. Incorporate details of the place or scene, even if you don’t write your poem specifically about the work.

Pulling poetry from the landscape

The Garden Looks In

I thought the window
was made for me—

a square of glass
through which I could watch
the garden grow.

But perhaps
I had it backwards.

The flowers lean closer,
pink heads lifted
above unruly green.

Branches gather
around the roof
as though listening.

Leaves press toward the panes,
curious about this creature
who lives behind walls.

Every morning
I watch the garden change—

another stem,
another bloom,
another tendril
finding somewhere to belong.

And every morning
the garden watches me,

growing older
behind the same glass.

One day
the window may disappear
beneath leaves and flowers,

and no one will remember
which side
was ever called inside.

Love the way you describe the garden as a being almost knocking to come in
