If you could erase one event from history, what would it be?
If I could really choose?
All wars.
Every single one of them.
But if the rules of the time machine allowed me to erase only one historical event, I would choose World War II.
The sheer scale of human suffering is almost impossible to comprehend.
Millions of people killed.
Families torn apart.
Cities destroyed.
People forced from their homes.
And the Holocaust—a systematic attempt to persecute and murder entire groups of human beings simply because of who they were.
I would erase the concentration camps.
The mass graves.
The frightened children.
The soldiers who never came home.
The families who waited for someone who never walked through the door again.
Of course, changing one event in history would change everything that followed it, and none of us could possibly know what that alternative world would look like.
But if I could remove that amount of suffering from human history?
I would.
And yet, more than anything, I wish humanity could learn enough from history that we stopped repeating the same mistakes.
Different countries.
Different generations.
But still ordinary people paying the price.
Perhaps instead of wishing we could erase history, the greatest thing we can do is remember it—and refuse to become comfortable with war.
