If you had a time machine and could send just one message to your past self, what would it say?
In a prompt the other day, WordPress asked what I hoped my future self would tell me.
Today we’re apparently turning the time machine around. 😂
If I could send one message to the younger me, it would be:
“Trust your intuition, trust your voice, and never make yourself smaller to make someone else comfortable.”
There were times when I stayed quiet.
Times when I questioned what I knew deep inside.
Times when I worried too much about what other people thought.
And times when I apologised simply for taking up space.
I wouldn’t use the time machine to tell younger me everything that was going to happen.
I wouldn’t erase every heartbreak or difficult chapter.
I’d simply tell her:
Trust yourself sooner.
Your kindness isn’t weakness.
Your sensitivity isn’t something you need to hide.
Your intuition doesn’t require anyone else’s permission.
And your voice?
Use it.
Some people won’t like what you have to say.
Use it anyway.
And perhaps the timing of this prompt couldn’t be more perfect.
Yesterday, my new song was released.
Its title?
“Silenced, But Not Broken.”
Maybe that’s the message I’d send back through time after all.
They may silence you for a while.They may make you doubt your own voice.But they will not break you.
Because one day, you’ll find that voice again.
