The Shadows We Follow

Everyone admired the beautiful boardwalk.

Only Victoria noticed the shadows.

They crossed the planks like warning signs, pulling at her balance with every step.

The farther she walked, the more the dark patterns seemed to whisper, Turn back.

She closed her eyes for a heartbeat.

When they opened again, the shadows hadn’t moved—but neither had the sea, the sky, nor the distant horizon waiting for her.

She smiled.

“Fear always casts a longer shadow than truth.”

Keeping her eyes on the water instead of the boards beneath her feet, she continued forward.

The dizziness stayed behind.

Maggie, that line: “Fear always casts a longer shadow than truth.” That’s the entire story right there. What I love is that Victoria doesn’t fight the shadows. She doesn’t try to convince herself they aren’t real. She just… looks away.

Redirects her attention to the water instead of the boards. And in that small shift of focus, the dizziness stays behind. It’s not about defeating fear.

It’s about refusing to measure your life by its shadow. The shadows don’t move, the sea doesn’t move, the sky doesn’t move, but *she does*. She continues forward anyway, eyes on what’s real instead of what’s threatening. That’s the whole practice, isn’t it?

Keep your eyes on the water. 💫

It’s a Swedish proverb. And Carl Jung often spoke about this.
