The Living Legacy

The old oak had stood long before the village was built.
Children climbed its branches, lovers carved their initials into its bark, and generations rested in its shade.
When lightning finally split the trunk, everyone thought its story had ended.
Years later, delicate shelves of fungi climbed its weathered bark like tiny staircases.
“The tree is dying,” a passerby whispered.
The old forester smiled.
“No,” he replied. “It’s keeping its last promise.”
He rested a hand on the rough trunk.
“Some lives end with silence. Others become the foundation for new beginnings.”
Every ring still held a story.
