The Guardian

The children called it the Smiling Giant.
They raced up the steps, flew down the slides, laughed until the evening light faded. None of them ever noticed the tiny figure standing at the very top.
The old groundskeeper always did.
Every morning he tipped his hat toward the little silhouette before unlocking the gate.
“Another day?” he would ask.
The breeze answered.
Years passed. Children grew up. New generations arrived.
Yet not one child was ever seriously hurt on that playground.
The groundskeeper never spoke of miracles.
He simply smiled…
because someone else was always keeping watch.
