This week let’s write a poem with the words black, govern and solstice in it.

This is another of those prompts where I randomly choose three words from a list of the top 1000 words in the English language plus a few of my favorites

Monday Poetry Prompt: Black, Govern, Solstice

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

In six days,

the sun will stand still
for just
a moment—

as if even light
needs time
to breathe.

The black hours
have grown shorter now,

though life still carries
its shadows.

No one can fully govern
the seasons of the heart.

Some wounds bloom slowly.

Some dreams arrive late.

Some storms linger
longer than welcome.

Yet the solstice reminds us—

light always returns,

not loudly,

not all at once,

but enough

to warm the places
that once believed
winter would never end.

I like how this turns from the vastness of the seasons to reflecting on our internal feelings 🩷
