Calm
Calm—
not the absence
of storms,
but learning
how to breathe
while thunder
still mutters
in the distance.
It is not silence,
always.
Sometimes
calm sounds like waves repeating their ancient prayers,
or wind moving softly through tired thoughts.
I used to think peace arrived
all at once—
a grand stillness,
a perfect ending
to every ache.
But calm
is quieter
than that.
It lives
in warm tea
held between trembling hands.
In sunsets
that ask nothing
except that you pause.
In knowing
you survived days you thought
would break you.
Maybe calm
is not something
we find.
Maybe
it is something
we grow—
slowly,
gently,
like light returning
after a long winter.
RDP Tuesday! Calm!
With love
