MTB: Taking a Fine Line Down
Today’s Meeting the Bar challenge at dVerse invited us to take a lyrical line and define it word by word through acrostic.
Instead of borrowing from Dylan Thomas, I chose a line from my own piece October Sky:
“I didn’t fall, I was taken.”
The song and lyrics were written for Liam Payne’s one-year anniversary. A remembrance. A question left echoing beneath an October sky.
The music video became even more meaningful because I was given permission to use photographs from the bandstand in West Park, Wolverhampton — Liam’s birthplace. There was something deeply symbolic in that for me. Returning, through imagery and music, to where a story began while reflecting on the silence left behind.
Some songs are not written to explain grief.
Some are written simply to sit beside it.
This acrostic became another way of unfolding the meaning hidden inside one sentence.

I Didn’t Fall, I Was Taken
I
Invisible truths,
Intuition whispering
Inside the silence.
DIDN’T
Doubt lingering,
Invisible fractures hidden,
Darkness not always seen—
No witness to the unseen,
Time refusing explanation.
FALL
Fragments of stories.
Absence dressed as answers.
Lies settling too easily.
Love still asking why.
I
Ink remembers
what memory fears forgetting.
WAS
Wounds speaking softly,
Aching through absence,
Still refusing silence.
TAKEN
Time interrupted.
A name carried forward.
Questions burning quietly.
Every echo unanswered.
Knowing love remains.
