What the Rain Knew

It was a cold day,
the kind that settles deep in the bones,
when even the sky seemed tired
of carrying so much rain.

My father stood by the window,
quiet in that way some men are
when life has held them
a little too tightly for too long.

I just watched him then,
as if children always believe
they have more time
than the world will ever allow.

But grief is not always loud.
Sometimes it is small,
a silence in the room,
a cup left untouched,
a memory the heart threw
into the future to be understood later.

By six, the light was fading.
Nothing had changed,
and yet everything had.

Because something in me known
without words
that love is not only what is spoken—
it is also the quiet resolve
to stay,
to remember,
to carry what was never fully said.

( This is from when my father lost his second wife after a drowning accident. )

RIP Julia 🙏

Yes, very sad to see my father so broken. It happened in 2019 and he still suffers. 💔
