When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A nurse.
It was that simple.
No long explanations,
no complicated dreams—
just a quiet knowing.
I wanted to care.
To help.
To be there when someone needed it most.
Even then,
something in me understood
the importance of presence—
of kindness,
of holding space for others.
Life didn’t unfold exactly
the way I imagined it would…
but when I look back now,
I realise something softly beautiful:
That little girl
wasn’t wrong.
Because in so many ways,
I still became
what she dreamed of.
Not always in uniform,
not always in the ways the world measures—
but in how I listen,
how I feel,
how I care.
Some dreams don’t disappear—
they simply change form.
