Holding
Rust is only time made visible.
This latch once moved easily—
metal trusting metal,
open, close, open again.
Now it hesitates,
stiff with seasons.
I think about the things
we fasten shut
to keep safe,
and how, slowly,
they begin to keep us.
Moss creeps in.
Weather writes its quiet verdict.
Still, the hinge remains—
not broken,
just slower to yield.
Perhaps that is strength too:
to hold
without snapping.
To endure rain,
frost,
neglect—
and still remember
how to open
when asked gently.
