The Words That Waited
She wanted to tell him how much she loved him, but…
The moment never felt quite right.
There was always something in the way — a joke about to be told, a train to catch, a phone ringing, the ordinary noise of life that insists there will be another chance.
She told herself love didn’t need announcing. He must know. It was there in the way she remembered how he took his coffee. In the way she softened when he walked into a room. In the way her anger never lasted long.
Love, she believed, was visible.
Still, the words hovered. Three simple syllables that felt heavier than they should. What if saying them changed something? What if they demanded an answer she wasn’t ready to hear?
So she stored them carefully, like fragile glass.
Then one quiet evening, nothing special, nothing cinematic, she watched him laugh at something small and ordinary. And she understood that love doesn’t wait for perfect lighting or rehearsed courage.
It waits for honesty.
She didn’t make a speech. She didn’t frame it carefully.
She just said it.
And the world didn’t tilt. The sky didn’t split open. No music swelled.
He smiled — the kind of smile that answers before words do.
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t loving.
It’s letting yourself be heard.
