Books I’ve Been Given
Some books arrive as gifts.
Others arrive as portals.
The first five volumes of The Legend of the Ice People were given to me by a friend I went to school with.
I don’t think either of us knew what she was handing over.
I was hooked almost immediately.
What began as a historical family saga unfolded into something far larger—
generations bound by blood and destiny,
the pull between darkness and goodness,
love that endured centuries,
and a deep concern for the fate of humanity and the Earth itself.
Written by Margit Sandemo, the series grew into an epic of 82 books, spanning history, fantasy, mysticism, and even science fiction.
From Scandinavia and Iceland to secret realms beneath the Earth’s crust, the story asked questions I didn’t yet have words for—about power, responsibility, legacy, and what happens when humans forget they belong to the planet.
I’ve read the entire series at least five times.
Those books shaped my imagination, my sense of good and evil, and my love for long, layered stories that dare to care about the future. They are all still in Norway now—lined up on shelves, holding decades of rereads and memories.
If I return to them again, it will be through e-books.
Different format.
Same magic.
Some books you never really leave behind.
They wait patiently,
until you’re ready to open the door again.
