Today’s number, 231, led me straight into a folder full of animals—mostly horses—and into a memory I didn’t know I needed to revisit.

These photos are from July 2021, during a training weekend where my daughters were given the rare opportunity to ride with a two-time world champion in dressage. It was one of those weekends that quietly leaves a mark.

When a horse proved difficult or uncooperative, the trainers put my oldest daughter in the saddle. Something shifted immediately.
The horse softened, listened, and moved as if they had always known each other. Calm. Trust. Harmony.

The world champion watched closely—and then asked if he could buy her horse.
He loved her movements, her balance, the way she communicated without force.

At the time, my oldest daughter was 15, and her younger sister 14.
Too young to fully understand how extraordinary that moment was—but old enough to feel it.

Some lessons arrive quietly.
Some confidence is earned without applause.
And sometimes, a number like 231 reminds you just how much grace lives inside your children.

What wonderful photos. Did the horse the man wanted to buy belong to your daughter or was it just the one she was riding?

I’m sure she didn’t sell! But a nice compliment for both horse and rider.

Oh no, she didn’t sell the horse that time.
But life changed in 2023 after my husbsnds accident … so we had to take the difficult:, but necessary decision to sell the horses.
