Three Things Challenge #MM521
OVERSEE • ORGAN • ORGANIZE
Sometimes three random words aren’t quite so random.
My husband is currently waiting for an organ transplant — a new kidney.
And with that comes a strange kind of waiting.
You hope every day for the call to come, while knowing that somewhere else, another family may be experiencing one of the hardest days of their lives.
When that call finally comes, there will suddenly be a lot to organize.
The transplant will take place in Tenerife, another province and another island from where we live in Fuerteventura.
Travel.
Hospital arrangements.
What to pack.
What needs to be done at home.
And somehow, in the middle of all that, trying to remember to breathe.
Until then, the transplant team will oversee his care while we continue with everyday life and wait.
Waiting for an organ transplant is peculiar.
You can’t put your life completely on hold.
You still make dinner.
Keep appointments.
Laugh.
Get frustrated.
Make plans.
Live ordinary days.
But somewhere in the background is always the knowledge that one phone call could suddenly change everything.
And when it comes, we’ll organize whatever needs organizing, take it one step at a time, and make our way to Tenerife.
Until then…
we wait.
And we hope.
For the call that could give him a new chapter.
