Dependence is often spoken of
as weakness.

As leaning too heavily.
As needing what should not be needed.

But every life begins in dependence—
on hands that feed,
on voices that soothe,
on structures that hold.

There is unhealthy dependence,
yes—
where freedom thins
and choice narrows.

But there is also
interdependence—
the quiet agreement
that none of us stands alone.

I have learned
that needing help
is not surrender.

It is honesty.

Even strength
depends
on something—
time, breath,
the steady rhythm
that keeps it going.
