Olympics

The Olympics aren’t just medals.

They are years
no one saw.

Early mornings.
Cold pools.
Bruised shins.
Repetition without applause.

We watch the final seconds—
the sprint,
the leap,
the breath held across nations.

But the real story lives
in the invisible training.

I’ve come to think
life has its own Olympics.

Private disciplines.
Endurance no one scores.
Moments when simply showing up
is the event.

Not every victory glitters.
Not every effort earns a podium.

Sometimes the medal
is getting through the year.
Sometimes the gold
is standing steady
when you would rather sit down.

The Olympics remind me—
excellence isn’t sudden.

It’s built.

And whether or not
the crowd is watching,
the work still counts.

it’s interesting how after events some, especially the ski and snowboard, athletes will hug and hi five and cheer everyone else, no matter what country they are from, it’s like a fraternity, unlike the fans in the stands and the competing media..the athletes themselves are there for each other to compete and to cheer for others…and I think it’s always odd that us Canadians are like that too…heck we felt Lindsay Vonn’s pain as much as anyone else

I absolutely love this. This very thing has been on my mind for the last year — not particularly in connection with the Olympics, but with life, its marathons and all the races we run in the fog, knowing what the finish line is. Thank you! ❤️
