What relationships have a positive impact on you?

“Relationships” is a big word.
Of course, my family, my children, and my friends have an enormous impact on my life.
They ground me, hold me, stretch me, and remind me I am loved.
But if I really look back through my entire life,
there has been one relationship that has followed me longer than any human one:
My relationship with music.
Music has been “my everything” for as long as I can remember.
As a little girl I would sing to shop owners, to neighbours, to people just walking down the street 😂
I was fearless. I was joy. I was pure expression.
Sometimes I ask myself…
Where did that confidence go?
Some years ago my younger brother said to me:
“Grow up, Maggie. You’re not a teenager anymore. Why do you still listen to techno and house music?”
And honestly… that hurt more than I let on.
Because why should music have an age label?
Why should joy have an expiration date?
I listen to everything —
classical, metal rock, techno, house, pop, whatever pulls on my heart that day.
And this year, 2025, has been extraordinary.
I started writing lyrics.
I found an AI program that helps me create the music I hear in my heart and head.
I’ve been playing keyboard, and I once played guitar many years ago…
and now I feel like I’ve come full circle.
Music isn’t just sound.
It isn’t just “background noise.”
It is companionship.
It is oxygen.
It is healing.
It is one of the longest, most loyal relationships of my life.
And it continues to shape me.
