Daily Prompt 31.10.2026 – The Golden Rule 💜
Dailyprompt-2931: If you had to sum up your life philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?
My life philosophy has always been simple:
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
It’s a philosophy I’ve carried with me throughout my life, and one I still believe in today.
Treat people with kindness, respect and compassion.
Be honest.
Help when you can.
And never deliberately cause another person pain.
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it?
Yet sometimes I wonder why something so straightforward can be so difficult for people to practise.
We all have our own stories, struggles and experiences. We never truly know what another person might be going through behind a smile.
A kind word can make someone’s day.
A little understanding can make a difficult situation easier.
And sometimes, simply listening without judging can mean more than we realise.
But there’s something important I’ve learned along the way.
Kindness should never be mistaken for weakness.
Treating others as I would like to be treated doesn’t mean accepting disrespect, dishonesty or cruelty.
It doesn’t mean allowing people to walk all over me.
I’ve learned that setting boundaries is just as important as showing compassion.
After all, the Golden Rule works both ways.
I wouldn’t deliberately hurt someone, and I don’t believe I should have to accept being hurt in return.
Life has taught me many lessons, some beautiful and others rather painful.
But those experiences haven’t changed the values I try to live by.
I still believe in kindness.
I still believe in treating people fairly.
And I still believe that a little compassion can make a tremendous difference in someone’s life.
We cannot control how other people behave.
But we can choose how we behave towards them.
And perhaps that’s where making the world a little better begins.
Not with grand gestures or impressive speeches, but with the small choices we make every day.
Treat others as you wish to be treated.
Seven words that have guided me through life.
And seven words I intend to keep living by.
