Sometimes the funniest things in life happen completely by accident.
And sometimes, a simple typo can turn into an entire musical production! 🤣
Let me explain.
Here on Fuerteventura, we have a music festival called Arena Negra, which translates to Black Sand.
Now, a few months ago, during one of our lovely Saharan heatwaves (and by lovely, I mean absolutely unbearable!), we were also dealing with our frequent visitor from Africa — CALIMA!
For those unfamiliar with calima, imagine somebody opening the world’s largest vacuum cleaner bag directly over the Canary Islands.
Dust everywhere!
The sky turns a strange yellowish colour, the mountains disappear behind a dusty curtain, and breathing fresh air becomes something of a luxury.
And the temperature?
Well, let’s just say even the lizards were probably looking for somewhere with air-conditioning!
There I was, sitting in my car with the air-conditioning running, trying not to melt into the driver’s seat.
I was going to write something about Area 51, the mysterious American military facility associated with UFOs and alien conspiracy theories.
But somewhere between my overheating brain, the Saharan dust, and my fingers on the keyboard, something happened.
AREA 51 became ARENA 51!
🤣
I looked at it.
Read it again.
And suddenly thought…
Hang on a minute!
ARENA 51!
Arena Negra meets Area 51!
A mysterious conspiracy involving Saharan dust, unbearable heat, and possibly a few extraterrestrial visitors!
Well, obviously, there was only one sensible thing to do.
WRITE A SONG ABOUT IT! 🎶👽
And that, dear readers, is how “Arena 51 — The Calima Conspiracy” was born.
Not in a professional recording studio.
Not during a moment of profound musical inspiration.
But in a car, with the air-conditioning blasting, while I was trying to survive another Fuerteventura heatwave!
And because one version apparently wasn’t enough, I also created an Alien Invasion Remix.
Yes, really!
What started as a typo became two EDM tracks.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I’d simply corrected the spelling.
Probably nothing.
No conspiracy.
No aliens.
No dance music.
Just another ordinary day complaining about the weather.
So, the next time you make a typo, don’t be too quick to delete it.
You never know.
It might just become your next hit song!
And if the aliens ever do land on Fuerteventura, I hope they bring some rain.
We’ve already got enough dust!
