What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?
Starting this blog and allowing other people to read my writing. 💜
That might not sound like a particularly big achievement to some people.
After all, millions of people have blogs.
They write, press Publish, and share their thoughts with the world.
Simple, right?
Well…
Not necessarily!
I’ve loved writing since I was a child.
Poetry, stories, thoughts and little pieces of my imagination have always found their way onto paper.
When I was younger, I even had a special white notebook with gold trim where I kept some of my most precious poems.
Those words were mine.
My thoughts.
My feelings.
My little world.
And for a long time, that’s where I felt most comfortable keeping them.
Hidden safely between the pages.
Because writing something is one thing.
Allowing other people to read it is something entirely different.
What if they don’t like it?
What if they misunderstand what I’m trying to say?
What if they think it’s silly?
Or worse…
What if they laugh?
Not with me, but at me.
Those little questions can become surprisingly loud when you’re about to share something personal.
And poetry, especially, can feel very personal.
Sometimes you’re not simply sharing words.
You’re sharing emotions you’ve struggled to explain in any other way.
Then, in August 2025, I started this blog.
And suddenly, I had a decision to make.
Would I continue keeping my writing to myself?
Or would I finally allow those words to find their way into the world?
I chose to press Publish.
And then I probably wondered what on earth I’d just done!
But something wonderful happened.
I kept writing.
And people started reading.
Some left comments.
Some shared their own experiences.
Others offered encouragement or simply told me that something I’d written had touched them.
I began discovering a community of writers, poets and creative people from different parts of the world.
People with different backgrounds, different lives and different stories to tell.
And somewhere along the way, I stopped worrying quite so much about whether my writing was good enough.
I began enjoying the freedom of simply being myself.
Some days I write poetry.
Other days, short stories.
Sometimes I share memories or reflections about life.
And occasionally, I write something completely ridiculous involving aliens, Saharan dust and a fictional place called Arena 51.
Because apparently, once I opened the door to my imagination, nobody remembered to install a lock!
And I’m rather glad they didn’t.
💜
My blog has also given me the courage to explore other creative dreams.
Writing lyrics.
Creating songs.
Releasing my own music as The Afterlove Voice.
Things I might once have dismissed with a little voice whispering:
“Oh, you couldn’t possibly do that.”
Well, apparently, I could.
And I did.
Not everything I write is perfect.
Not every poem is a masterpiece.
Not every story will appeal to everyone.
And that’s perfectly fine.
I’ve learned that I don’t need everyone’s approval to enjoy creating something.
I write because I love it.
Because words help me understand myself.
Because stories deserve to be told.
And because sometimes a poem can express what ordinary conversation cannot.
But perhaps the greatest surprise has been discovering that sharing my writing doesn’t make those words any less mine.
It simply gives them a chance to connect with someone else.
And that’s a beautiful thing.
If you’d told my younger self that one day she’d have a public blog filled with poems, stories and personal reflections, she probably wouldn’t have believed you.
She might have smiled politely.
Then hurried home to hide her notebook somewhere safe.
But here I am.
Still writing.
Still learning.
Still finding new ways to express myself.
And still occasionally feeling that little flutter of uncertainty before publishing something especially personal.
The difference is that I no longer allow that feeling to stop me.
I press Publish anyway.
