Share Your World 5th October 2026

Here are this week’s questions & my answers

Share Your World – 5 October 2026

This week’s Share Your World is about work — the jobs we’ve had, the jobs we’ve dreamed about, promotions and what we would create if we could build our own company.

Questions one and four are very easy for me because they’re really the same answer.

If I could have my ideal job, I’d create it myself.

And apparently, somewhere along the way, I’ve already given it a name.

Welcome to The Afterlove Café.

1. If you could have an ideal job, what would it be?

I would open The Afterlove Café — but it wouldn’t be an ordinary café.

First things first:

Good coffee.

Very good coffee.

This is non-negotiable.

There would be tea too, of course, and food inspired by different countries and cultures. I love the idea of a menu where you could try something from another part of the world, alongside familiar favourites.

But food and drink would only be part of it.

There would be books everywhere.

Novels, poetry, mythology, astrology, spiritual books and whatever else looked interesting enough to disappear into for an hour.

Comfortable chairs and quiet corners where nobody expected you to finish your drink and immediately leave.

And on the tables?

Writing pads and pens.

Because sometimes a thought arrives unexpectedly.

Perhaps you came in for coffee and suddenly one line appears in your head.

Write it down.

Maybe it’s only a sentence.

Maybe it becomes a story.

Maybe it’s something you’ve needed to say for years.

Or perhaps…

it’s a poem. 😉

I’d even have a Poetry Wall, where people could leave something they’d written for others to discover.

Then, of course, there would be the other side of The Afterlove Café.

Astrology. Tarot. Crystals.

And next to the café would be a separate private reading room.

That part is important to me.

Astrology and Tarot readings can become very personal. People may talk about relationships, grief, family, fears, hopes or things they simply don’t want strangers overhearing while they’re drinking their cappuccino.

So the reading room would be peaceful and completely private.

Soft lighting, comfortable chairs, books, crystals and a table for the cards.

A safe space where you could close the door and talk.

What is said in the reading room stays in the reading room. 💜

Then afterwards, perhaps you’d return to the café, order another coffee, pick up one of those writing pads…

And maybe something from your reading becomes a poem for the Poetry Wall.

Now that would be my ideal job.

A place for body, mind, creativity and soul.

2. Has a job position you held ever been a disappointment to you?

During my final year of high school, I spent three days a week at school and two days working.

I already knew I wanted to become a nurse, so when I was placed at a local nursing home, I was excited.

Finally!

I’d get some experience working with patients.

Except…

My first job was washing silverware.

Not quite what I’d imagined.

Then I progressed to…

washing floors.

Wonderful. 🤣

The problem was that I wanted to spend time talking with the patients.

So I became possibly the fastest floor washer in Norway.

Mop, mop, mop…

DONE!

Now, where are the people?

I was so quick that they actually thought I couldn’t possibly have cleaned the floors properly.

Oh, I had.

I simply had motivation.

There were elderly people around me with entire lifetimes of memories and stories, and I wanted to sit with them and listen.

Why would I spend any longer than necessary talking to a mop?

Looking back, perhaps that placement wasn’t such a disappointment after all, because it taught me something important very early.

For me, caring was never simply about completing tasks.

It was about the people. 💜

3. Do you believe promotions in the workplace are given to those who work hard, those who are qualified for the job, or those who happen to be friends with management?

All three.

I’ve seen or heard examples of every one of them.

Some people work incredibly hard, prove themselves and genuinely earn their promotion.

Sometimes the person who is best qualified and most capable gets the position.

And sometimes…

Well…

Knowing the right people certainly doesn’t hurt.

Ideally, promotions should go to someone who has the qualifications, experience and ability to do the job properly.

But workplaces are made up of human beings.

And human beings aren’t always completely objective.

4. If you could build your own company, what would it be?

We’ve already built it. 😂

The Afterlove Café. 💜

Good coffee and tea.

Food from around the world.

Books everywhere.

Comfortable chairs and quiet corners.

Writing pads and pens.

A Poetry Wall.

Astrology.

Tarot.

Crystals.

And a separate private room for readings.

I’d want it to be somewhere you could walk through the door and immediately feel that there was no hurry.

Come for coffee.

Stay for a book.

Write something.

Talk to somebody.

Have a reading.

Sit quietly.

Think.

Create.

Or simply watch the world go by.

Perhaps you’d come in wanting nothing more than a coffee and cake…

…and leave three hours later carrying a crystal, knowing where Saturn is in your natal chart and having written your first poem in twenty years.

And naturally, The Afterlove Café would have one extremely important company policy:

We never run out of coffee.

Failure to comply would constitute a management emergency.

Gratitude 💜

This week I’m grateful for all the different experiences that have taught me what meaningful work actually means to me.

Even that nursing-home placement taught me something.

I went there wanting to care for people and found myself washing silverware and floors.

But all these years later, I don’t really remember the floors.

I remember how badly I wanted to finish them so I could get back to the people.

Perhaps our ideal job isn’t defined by a title, a salary or what looks impressive on paper.

Maybe it’s about finding the things that make us feel connected, useful and alive.

For me, those things would include people, conversation, creativity, writing, books, music, spirituality, food and a little bit of magic.

And coffee.

Definitely coffee.

So perhaps I haven’t simply answered this week’s Share Your World.

I seem to have accidentally created an entire business.

And I’ve already named it.

The Afterlove Café — a place for curious minds, creative souls and open hearts. 💜✨

Come for the coffee.

Stay for the books.

Write the poem.

And if you need answers…

the reading room is just next door. 🔮
