Where the Sand Remembers
The road was long,the kind that teaches silence.
We arrived carrying too much gear,old worries packed tighter than they ever needed to be.
The path turned sandy,wind brushing against our ankles,the sea whispering warnings about beauty and danger living side by side.
There were numerous footprints crossing the forgotten property,some large, some hesitant,and one impossibly little,as though childhood itself had wandered through before us.
You stood there, looking toward the horizon,leaning gently on your cane,holding yourself together in ways the world never noticed.
“Perhaps,” you said,“ the best idea is not to run—but to keep going.”
So we stayed until supper,sharing bread, salt air, and stories,letting the evening soften what the day had tried to harden.
And somehow,without asking permission,hope sat beside us.
