This week’s Story Starter teaser is:
She ran her hand beneath the park bench and sure enough, just as he said, she felt the envelope secured there by tape.

The Envelope Beneath the Bench
She ran her hand beneath the park bench and sure enough, just as he said, she felt the envelope secured there by tape.
For a moment she didn’t pull it free. Her fingers rested against the rough wood, feeling the edges of the paper through the tape, as if confirming that the whole strange arrangement was real.
Around her the park moved normally. A dog barked somewhere near the fountain. A child laughed. Leaves rustled above her head in the late afternoon wind.
No one paid her any attention.
That had been part of the instructions.
She finally peeled the envelope loose and slipped it into her coat pocket without looking at it. The bench creaked softly when she stood.
He had said not to open it here.
Only when she reached the quiet street beyond the trees did she take the envelope out.
Inside was a single sheet of paper.
Just a few handwritten words.
If you found this, it means you trusted me enough to come.
Below the sentence was a second line.
A new envelope will be waiting tomorrow.
And beneath that, a time.
She looked back toward the park, suddenly aware that whatever this was, it had only just begun.
