Dailyprompt-2929: What’s one thing you own that holds deep sentimental value?
There are certain things we own that might not be worth much money, yet to us, they’re priceless.
For me, one of those treasures is an old tea or coffee cup that belonged to my grandmother.
It’s not perfect.
It has cracks, and the years have certainly left their marks.
But I wouldn’t exchange it for a brand-new cup, no matter how beautiful or expensive.
Because its value isn’t in the porcelain.
It’s in the memories.
I keep it safely in a cabinet, surrounded by my crystals.
Perhaps that seems like an unusual place for an old cup, but to me, it belongs there, among the things I treasure.
Every time I look at it, I’m reminded of my grandmother.
I wonder how many cups of tea or coffee she enjoyed from it over the years. How many conversations took place while she held it, and how many ordinary moments became memories without anyone realising it.
It’s funny how something so small can carry such a strong connection to someone we love.
We often think of precious possessions as jewellery, antiques or expensive family heirlooms.
But sometimes the most valuable things are the simplest.
A photograph.
A handwritten letter.
An old piece of clothing.
Or a cracked cup that once belonged to someone dear.
The cracks don’t bother me.
They’re part of its history.
And perhaps there’s something rather beautiful in that.
After all, we humans collect a few cracks of our own as we travel through life.
They don’t make us any less valuable.
They simply tell a little of our story.
My grandmother’s cup may never be used for tea or coffee again, but it still has a purpose.
It keeps a little piece of her close to me.
And that is worth far more than anything money could buy.
