Do you set personal goals for yourself?

Daily Prompt 25.10.2026 – Goals, Brakes and a Cup of Coffee

Dailyprompt-2925: Do you set personal goals for yourself?

Oh, absolutely!

Some mornings, my first personal goal is simply to get out of bed.

Unfortunately, my body doesn’t always agree with the plan.

My brain says, “Right, let’s get up and get things done!”

My body replies, “Djezes, woman! Have you checked the brakes? They’re ALL on!”

And apparently, nobody can find the keys.

There are mornings when getting from the bed to the coffee machine feels like completing an obstacle course. But once that first cup of coffee is in my hands, at least negotiations can begin.

Joking aside, I do set goals for myself, although they’re not necessarily the kind you find in motivational books.

I don’t need a five-year plan, a colour-coded spreadsheet or a motivational speaker shouting at me to conquer the world before breakfast.

Some days, simply getting through everything that needs doing is an achievement in itself.

But there is one personal goal that means a great deal to me.

Writing at least one blog post every single day.

When I started blogging, I had no idea how much it would become part of my everyday life.

Writing has always been something I’ve enjoyed, but for many years, most of my words remained tucked away in notebooks, written for my eyes only.

Now, I have this little corner of the internet where I can share my poems, stories, memories, thoughts and occasionally my rather questionable sense of humour. 🤭

Some days, the words flow effortlessly.

Other days, my imagination seems to have packed a suitcase and gone on holiday without telling me.

But I still sit down and write.

Not because I have to. Not because I’m chasing statistics, followers or recognition.

Because writing makes me happy.

It’s my creative outlet, my little daily ritual, and sometimes a wonderful escape from everything happening around me.

And if I manage to write a poem, create some music, take care of what needs doing and still find time to sit outside beneath the stars, I’d call that a pretty successful day.

I’ve learned that goals don’t always have to be enormous.

Sometimes they’re about consistency. Sometimes they’re about finding joy. And sometimes they’re simply about recognising what you can manage today.

Of course, tomorrow morning, my body may once again declare a nationwide transport strike.

But I have a strategy.

Coffee first. Negotiate with the brakes second. Write the blog post third.

And if all else fails, I can always write a poem about the negotiations!

💜
