Sunday Whirl – Wordle #779

18 October 2026

The Ghost Who Couldn’t Spell 👻😂

It started with the letters.

Every morning, another mysterious envelope appeared beneath my front door.

No stamp. No address. Just my name written in handwriting that looked suspiciously like a spider had fallen into an ink bottle.

The first letter simply said:

WE EXIST.

“Well, congratulations,” I muttered. “So do I.”

The second letter urged me to leave the house before midnight.

The third informed me that something ghastly would happen if I ignored the warning.

Naturally, I ignored it.

I had survived far too much in life to be frightened by badly written correspondence.

Besides, I had a vast collection of unfinished projects, and being chased out of my home by a ghost wasn’t on my schedule.

Then the pranks began.

Doors opened by themselves.

The television switched channels incessantly.

And someone kept rearranging the coffee mugs.

That last one was unforgivable.

One evening, I heard a strange rattling outside.

Looking west, toward the mountains, I noticed a peculiar figure dancing beneath the moonlight.

It appeared to be a skeleton.

A skeleton wearing a purple hat.

“Oh, for heaven’s sake.”

The creature stopped dancing and waved.

Then it shouted, “BEWARE, MORTAL! YOUR BONES SHALL TREMBLE!”

I stared at it.

“Are you quite finished?”

The skeleton looked offended.

“I am the Terror of the Underworld!”

“You look like a lunatic who’s escaped from a Halloween decoration shop.”

Silence.

Then it began laughing.

Apparently, even ghosts appreciate a good insult.

“Most people run away screaming!” it complained.

“Well, most people are fools if they believe every spooky thing they see.”

The skeleton scratched its skull.

“So you’re not afraid?”

“Not particularly. But if you touch my coffee again, we will have a serious problem.”

The following morning, another envelope appeared.

Inside was a single sentence:

SORRY ABOUT THE COFFEE.

And beneath it, in smaller letters:

CAN I STILL COME BACK FOR HALLOWEEN?

I sighed.

“Fine. But bring cake.”

After all, even the dead deserve a little hospitality.

Just don’t let them near the coffee machine.
