What’s something you’ve done that your past self would be proud of?
Oh, there are actually several things.
But if I had to bring them together into one answer, it would be this:
I found my voice. 💜
For much of my life, I was someone who preferred to keep the peace.
I didn’t particularly enjoy confrontation.
I often kept my thoughts to myself, even when something bothered me.
Sometimes because I didn’t want to hurt anyone.
Sometimes because I was afraid of the consequences of speaking up.
And sometimes because staying silent simply seemed easier.
But I’ve learned something over the years.
Silence doesn’t always bring peace.
Sometimes it simply means carrying everything inside yourself.
And eventually, that becomes a heavy burden.
Today, I speak up.
Not because I enjoy arguing.
Not because I believe I’m always right.
But because I’ve learned that my thoughts, feelings and opinions matter too.
I can disagree with someone without being cruel.
I can stand up for what I believe in.
And I can say NO without feeling that I owe the entire world an explanation.
That alone would probably surprise my younger self.
💜
But there’s something else I think she’d be proud of.
My writing.
When I was young, I loved putting words on paper.
Poems, thoughts, little stories and pages filled with whatever was happening inside my head.
Writing was always a part of me.
Somewhere along the way, however, life became complicated.
Responsibilities, family, difficult experiences and everything else that comes with living.
And for a long time, that creative part of me became quieter.
Not completely gone.
Just waiting.
Then, in 2025, I started this blog.
At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing.
Would anyone read it?
Would anyone be interested in my thoughts?
Would I even have enough to write about?
Well…
Apparently, that last question was rather unnecessary!
🤣🤣🤣
Because once I started writing, the words kept coming.
Poetry.
Short stories.
Personal memories.
Reflections about life.
A little humour.
And occasionally, complete nonsense involving aliens, calima and a mysterious place called Arena 51.
👽🤣
But every post has something in common.
It’s a little piece of me.
And then there’s the music.
🎶💜
Oh, how I wish I could tell my younger self about that!
Music has been part of my life since childhood.
But writing my own lyrics, creating songs and actually releasing my music into the world?
That would once have seemed like an impossible dream.
After Liam Payne passed away in October 2024, something began changing inside me.
Grief, emotions and unanswered questions found their way into words.
Those words became poetry.
Poetry became lyrics.
And eventually, lyrics became songs.
I began releasing music under the name The Afterlove Voice.
Something deeply personal became a new creative journey.
I wish the circumstances that inspired it had been different.
But I’m grateful that I rediscovered a part of myself I thought I might have lost.
Today, I can look at my blog, my poems, my songs and everything I’ve created and say:
I did that.
Not because everything is perfect.
Not because I’m famous.
Not because I have thousands of people applauding.
But because I dared to try.
I dared to share something personal.
I dared to let my voice be heard.
And perhaps most importantly…
I stopped waiting for permission to be myself.
My younger self wouldn’t have believed everything life had in store for her.
Some of it was beautiful.
Some of it was heartbreaking.
And some of it tested her more than she ever imagined.
But she kept going.
And today, at 55, I’m still learning, still growing, still creating and still discovering new things about myself.
I haven’t finished writing my story.
Not even close.
And if that younger girl could see me now, I hope she’d smile.
Perhaps she’d be a little surprised.
Perhaps she’d ask how on earth I ended up writing songs about aliens invading Fuerteventura.
🤣🤣🤣
But I think she’d understand the most important part.
We didn’t give up.
We found our words.
We found our music.
And somewhere along the journey…
We found our voice again.
The greatest gift I’ve given my younger self isn’t a perfect life. It’s the courage to live, create and speak as the person I truly am.
💜 Silenced, but not broken. And certainly not finished.
💜
