Dear Liam — Two Years Without You 💜🕊️

16 October 2026 — In Loving Memory of Liam Payne

Dear Liam,

Two years…

How can two years have passed when sometimes it feels like only yesterday?

Two years since the world lost your beautiful voice, your infectious laughter, your cheeky smile, and a heart that seemed to have so much love to give.

And yet, here we are.

Still speaking your name. Still listening to your music. Still watching those precious moments captured in time. Still smiling at your humour, and sometimes crying because we know there will never be another moment quite like them.

I never had the privilege of meeting you, Liam. We never shared a conversation, a laugh, or a cup of coffee.

But you were part of my life long before that heartbreaking October day.

And I wish I could tell you why.

Do you remember 2020, Liam?

The year the world seemed to stop turning.

The pandemic, the lockdowns, the fear, the uncertainty. Families separated, doors closed, and ordinary life suddenly becoming something we could only remember.

Here on my little island in the Atlantic Ocean, life was difficult too.

My husband had started dialysis, and the world outside our home felt increasingly uncertain. There were days when everything seemed overwhelming.

And then there were your livestreams.

There you were, appearing on a screen, chatting, laughing, singing, sharing little pieces of your everyday life.

You probably thought you were simply spending time with your fans.

But Liam, you were doing something much bigger than that.

You were bringing people together when the world was keeping everyone apart.

You made us laugh when there wasn’t much to laugh about.

You reminded us that somewhere beyond the fear and isolation, life was still happening.

And for me, those moments mattered more than you could ever have imagined.

You became a little light during a very dark chapter.

I wish I could have thanked you.

Not for being famous. Not for being a star.

But for being human.

For showing up.

For making difficult days a little easier to bear.

Then came October 16, 2024.

A date I wish had never become part of your story.

I remember the heartbreak, the disbelief, and the questions that followed.

How could someone so young, so talented, with so much life still ahead of him, suddenly be gone?

A son. A father. A brother. A friend.

A young man who had dreams, plans, struggles, and hopes for tomorrow.

Someone who deserved kindness, understanding, and the opportunity to grow older.

And as the headlines multiplied, something inside me refused to remain silent.

Because behind every photograph, every article, and every theory was a human being.

You were Liam. And your life mattered.

I began writing.

At first, perhaps it was simply my way of trying to understand the incomprehensible.

But the words kept coming.

Questions, reflections, tributes, poems, and thoughts about justice, compassion, and the importance of truth.

And somewhere along that journey, The Afterlove Voice was born.

A voice shaped by grief, but carried forward by love.

A place where I could write, create, remember, and speak for those whose stories deserve to be heard.

I have spent countless hours reading, researching, questioning, and writing.

Not because I believe I have all the answers.

I don’t.

But because I believe questions deserve honest answers, every person deserves dignity, and no human being should ever be reduced to the circumstances of their death.

I cannot change what happened to you, Liam.

How I wish I could.

But I can choose what I do with the love, sadness, and determination your story awakened in me.

I can keep writing.

I can keep creating music.

I can keep reminding people that kindness matters.

And I can continue seeking truth with compassion, rather than allowing anger to become louder than love.

You were never just the final chapter of your story.

You were every chapter that came before it.

Every song you sang.

Every smile you gave.

Every person you encouraged.

Every act of kindness that nobody photographed.

Every dream you carried in your heart.

Every moment when you made someone feel a little less alone.

Just as you did for me during lockdown.

And those are the things I never want the world to forget.

Two years later, people across the world still come together because of you.

Candles are lit. Songs are played. Poems are written. Memories are shared.

Your laughter still fills rooms through old recordings.

Your music still reaches hearts.

And somewhere, someone is discovering your voice for the very first time.

Isn’t that something beautiful, Liam?

That even though your journey ended far too soon, the love you inspired continues travelling across oceans and continents.

I think often about your family, your little boy, and those who knew the Liam behind the cameras.

Their loss is immeasurable.

I hope they find comfort in knowing that so many people remember you not merely as an artist, but as a person who brought something meaningful into their lives.

Sometimes, late at night, I look towards the stars.

Living here on Fuerteventura, away from the bright city lights, the night sky can be breathtaking.

And I find myself thinking about all the people looking at those same stars, carrying their own memories of you.

Different countries.

Different languages.

Different lives.

Yet connected by one beautiful soul.

I don’t know what lies beyond this life, Liam.

But I hope wherever you are, there is peace.

I hope there is music.

I hope there is laughter.

And I hope you are free from the pressures, expectations, and struggles that followed you here on Earth.

Just Liam.

Free to be yourself.

Today, I will light a candle for you.

Not only to mourn the day we lost you, but to celebrate the years you were here.

For your voice.

For your kindness.

For your humour.

For your creativity.

For the dreams you shared with the world.

And for the quiet moments when you helped people like me without ever knowing it.

Two years without you, Liam.

And I still wish I could say thank you.

Thank you for those lockdown evenings.

Thank you for the laughter.

Thank you for the music.

Thank you for inspiring words I might otherwise never have written.

And thank you for reminding me that even one voice can make a difference.

You once helped me through a time when the world felt silent.

And now, in my own small way, I hope The Afterlove Voice can help keep your light shining.

Not through anger.

Not through hatred.

But through love, remembrance, compassion, and the belief that truth matters.

Because love doesn’t disappear when someone leaves this Earth.

It changes shape.

It becomes a melody, a memory, a candle in the darkness, a feather carried by the wind, or a star shining a little brighter in the night.

And sometimes…

It becomes a voice.

A voice born from love.

A voice that carries memories.

A voice that refuses to let kindness be forgotten.

Rest peacefully, beautiful soul.

You are loved.

You are missed.

And you will always matter.

Same sky. Same stars. Still thinking of you. 💜🕊️

With love, always,

Maggie 💜
