What’s the best online course you’ve ever taken?

For me, it would have to be my two years at astrology school, from 2009 to 2011.

Although it wasn’t entirely online.

We had one weekend every month where we attended classes in person, while the rest of our studies were completed online or through working together with other students.

And I actually loved that combination.

Those weekends gave us the opportunity to meet, discuss what we were learning, ask questions and share our different interpretations.

Then, between classes, we could continue studying at our own pace.

But astrology isn’t something you learn simply by memorising the twelve zodiac signs.

Oh no!

There’s an entire universe of knowledge behind it.

Planets, houses, aspects, elements, planetary cycles and the relationships between them.

We studied classical astrology, esoteric astrology and medical astrology.

And the more I learned, the more I realised how much there was still to explore.

I’ve always been fascinated by the connections between ancient knowledge, mythology, symbolism and the human experience.

So for me, studying astrology wasn’t simply about learning to interpret a birth chart.

It was about exploring a subject that had interested me for many years.

And one of the things I particularly enjoyed was working with other students.

Because even when you’re looking at the same chart, people may notice different details.

One person might focus on the planetary aspects.

Another might see a particular pattern.

And suddenly a discussion opens up a completely new perspective.

That’s one of the wonderful things about learning together.

You don’t only learn from the teachers.

You learn from each other.

Of course, two years of studying didn’t mean I suddenly knew everything.

Quite the opposite!

The more you study a subject, the more you realise how much you don’t know.

And that’s something my grandmother used to remind me of:

“Learning and wisdom are not a heavy burden.”

I’ve carried those words with me throughout my life.

I also think the course taught me something about the importance of following my own interests.

Not every subject we study has to lead to a new career.

Sometimes we learn simply because we’re curious.

Because something fascinates us.

Because we want to understand it more deeply.

And that’s reason enough.

Even today, astrology remains one of my interests, alongside writing, music and all the other creative things that seem to keep my brain permanently occupied.

So yes, my two years at astrology school would definitely be my answer.

It combined online learning, classroom teaching, independent study and the wonderful experience of sharing knowledge with others.

And perhaps the best part was that I genuinely looked forward to learning more.

The best education doesn’t simply give us answers. It awakens our curiosity and encourages us to keep asking questions.
