For dVerse Poets Pub

For dVerse Poets Pub – Where Sanaa is our host.
Good evening, Poets! Sanaa here aka adashofsunny with another exciting round of Poetics.
Choose ONE song of your liking from the playlist and write a poem. Let the music determine the mood, imagery, setting, and voice. The poem doesn’t have to retell the songs; instead, use each one as a doorway into a different Halloween world.
Running Up That Hill” — Kate Bush
Prompt: Make a supernatural bargain. What would you exchange with the darkness if it could give you one impossible thing?
Poetics: Thirteen songs – Thirteen hauntings
The Night the Silenced Spoke
Inspired by “Running Up That Hill” — Kate Bush
On Halloween, I climbed the hill
where shadows gathered beneath the moon,
carrying neither candle nor cross,
only a wish
the world had refused to hear.
At the summit, darkness waited,
dressed in the silence of centuries.
“What would you give,” it whispered,
“for one impossible thing?”
I thought of the forgotten,
the murdered,
the missing,
the names buried beneath unanswered questions,
the lives reduced to headlines,
the families still waiting
for the truth to come home.
“Give them one night,” I answered.
“One night to speak.
Not to haunt,
not to frighten,
but to bring their stories into the light.”
The darkness laughed.
“And what will you surrender?”
“My voice,” I said.
“Take it until dawn.
Let theirs be heard instead.”
The moon turned crimson.
Across the world,
locked doors trembled,
forgotten photographs stirred,
and cold case files
opened like wounded wings.
From graveyards and lonely roads,
from rivers, rooftops,
and rooms where secrets slept,
they came.
Not as monsters.
Not as shadows seeking revenge.
But as souls
carrying fragments of truth
like lanterns in their hands.
They stood beside those
who had never stopped searching.
They whispered what they remembered,
pointed toward forgotten evidence,
and asked the living
to look again.
Some answers came clearly.
Others arrived as questions
that could no longer be ignored.
And for one extraordinary night,
the world listened.
At dawn,
the darkness returned my voice.
“Was it worth the price?”
I looked toward the horizon,
where thousands of lanterns
still burned against the fading stars.
“Yes,” I whispered.
“Because the dead
should not have to scream
to make the living listen.”
And somewhere,
a mother opened an old photograph,
a detective reopened a file,
and a name once forgotten
was spoken aloud.
The hill grew quiet.
But the light remained.
