October Keeps Its Secrets 🎃

October gathers
its orange moons
in a heap,

each one carrying
a little summer
beneath its skin.

No frost yet.

Only sunlight
remembered in gold,

twisted vines,

and stems reaching upward
like crooked fingers.

Soon,

someone will choose one,

carry it home,

cut a face
into its silence

and place a candle
where its heart
should be.

Then darkness
will arrive early,

shadows will stretch,

and ordinary doorsteps
will become
something magical.

Perhaps that is
October’s greatest trick—

taking something
grown quietly
from the earth

and turning it
into light.

So let the nights
grow longer.

Let autumn
whisper at the windows.

For somewhere
inside every darkness,

October is already
carving

a place
for the glow.
