Three Things Challenge #MM558
Today’s three words:
EARN• EASILY •ENDURANCE
25 September 2026
You Don’t Have to Earn Your Rest 💜
For years, I thought rest was something you had to earn.
Finish the work first.
Take care of everyone else.
Do the washing, answer the messages, write the post, solve the problem, make sure everybody is okay…
Then you may sit down.
Perhaps many of us were taught that without anyone actually saying the words.
We praise endurance.
We admire people who keep going no matter what life throws at them.
“Look how strong you are.”
And yes, endurance is strength.
But knowing when to stop is strength too.
I’m learning that one rather slowly.
Nothing about life comes easily all the time. There are days when I can write for hours, music pours from the speakers, ideas tumble over each other, and I wonder where the time disappeared.
Then there are days when I’ve barely slept because it’s still over 30°C in the middle of the night and my greatest achievement before lunchtime is remembering where I left my coffee.
On those days, the old voice still appears.
You should be doing something.
And I’m getting much better at answering it.
“I am.”
What?
“I’m resting.”
But—
“No. We’ve had this conversation.”
😂
Endurance doesn’t mean running until you collapse.
Sometimes endurance means recognising that tomorrow needs something from you too.
So today, if you’re exhausted, sit down.
Drink the coffee while it’s still hot.
Listen to the music.
Watch the world go by.
Take a nap if you’re lucky enough to find somewhere cool enough to do it.
The unfinished jobs will survive.
And so will that irritating little voice telling you to get up.
You don’t have to earn your rest.
Sometimes resting is part of the endurance.
