Share Your World 21st September 2026

Here are this week’s questions & my answers

Share Your World – 21 September 2026

This week’s Share Your World is all about food and drink.

Well, that should be easy enough.

Although, as you’ll soon discover, some of my restaurant experiences have been rather interesting.

1. What’s your favourite pizza topping?

Pineapple!

Yes, I’m one of those people. 🤣

I love pineapple on pizza, especially with ham, bacon or kebab meat.

That lovely combination of sweet and savoury is absolutely delicious.

I know pineapple on pizza is one of those subjects that can divide families, friendships and possibly entire nations.

But I’m not changing my mind.

Pineapple belongs on my pizza! 😂

2. What is/was your favourite soda (fizzy drink)?

Fanta Limón. 🍋

Living in the Canary Islands, there’s something rather refreshing about a cold lemon Fanta on a hot day.

Especially when the temperatures decide that 30°C is merely a warm-up exercise.

3. When out for a meal, have you ever sent yours back to the kitchen?

Yes!

I remember one particular occasion when we ordered steak.

I had asked for mine medium rare.

What arrived on my plate was something else entirely.

It was so undercooked that…

If I had been a veterinarian, I could have brought it back to life!

I sent it back.

And believe it or not, I haven’t eaten steak since.

Apparently, that particular cow made a lasting impression.

4. Has anything surprised you on a restaurant menu (apart from the price)?

Oh yes! 😂

Living on tourist islands, we see restaurant menus translated into all sorts of languages.

English, Spanish, German, Norwegian, French…

And sometimes I suspect the restaurant has simply handed the entire menu over to Google Translate and hoped for the best.

The results can be absolutely hilarious.

You look at a menu and find yourself wondering:

Is that a dish? An ingredient? Or has Google Translate just invented an entirely new species?

Sometimes the English translation is so strange that it’s easier to read the original Spanish menu.

At least then I have a fighting chance of knowing what I’m ordering.

And after my experience with the steak, I would rather know exactly what is going to arrive on my plate!

Gratitude 💜

This week I’m grateful for the little pleasures in life.

A favourite meal, a refreshing drink, good company around the table and the laughter that comes from those unexpected moments.

Food is about more than simply eating.

It’s about memories, conversations and sharing time with the people we love.

And sometimes, even a disastrous restaurant experience becomes a story that makes us laugh years later.

Although I would still prefer my steak to remain firmly in the past. 🤣

Here’s to good food, good company and menus that don’t require a degree in Google Translate to understand!

If I got a steak like you described, I’d never touch steak again! I can see why you don’t eat it! I love fanta, but I just get fanta orange, no lemon for me, unfortunately, but I’d love lemon fanta if it was available here!

Wasn’t aware that Fanta Lemon isn’t sold everywhere.
