MTB: Five Leavings from Home

Five Directions from Home

For dVerse Meeting the Bar — Five Leavings from Home

Home

Behind the green door, the kettle sings,
five cats negotiate the morning light.
Bella guards the threshold of our little world,
while mountains hold the silence in their palms,
and I have learned that roots can grow in sand.

North

The wind carries whispers of Norwegian rain,
of fjords that cradled my childhood dreams.
I left beneath a sky of winter stars,
but somewhere in the mountains of my memory,
a younger me still waits for spring.

East

Beyond the sea, my father’s shadow lengthens,
beside an empty chair beneath the Bulgarian sun.
Some distances cannot be measured in miles,
and every unanswered telephone
becomes a road I wish I could travel.

South

The desert opens like an ancient book,
its pages written in forgotten tongues.
I follow the footsteps of those who wandered,
until the wind erases every name
except the one my soul remembers.

West

The Atlantic gathers all my leavings,
carrying them towards the setting sun.
I stand where land surrenders to the ocean,
and understand that every road I’ve taken
has taught my heart another way of home.

Nicely done. You feel the history in the directions from home.

Thank you so much, Stew! 💜
Each direction holds a little piece of my journey, and I suppose we carry all our former homes within us, wherever life takes us.

What a spiritual and philosophical exploration of the relationship between home, all our starting points, and where life takes us and what links back – wonderful ending…

Thank you so much, Frewin! 💜 I believe we carry pieces of every place we’ve called home within us. No matter how far life takes us, those invisible threads remain, connecting us to our beginnings and to the people who shaped us. I’m so glad the ending resonated with you.

Thank you so much, Laura! 💜 I really enjoyed exploring this prompt. Each direction took me somewhere different, yet somehow they all led back to the same place. I’m so glad you felt that underlying connection.

Philosophical and filled with pathos. You’re a songstress. Are you able to say whether you used AI at all?

      Thank you 💜

I have a software that’s called BandLab were there’s also AI tools. Clear noises from background, connect instruments like my keyboard and my drum. Mix in other sounds etc .

Thank you so much, Björn! 💜 Sometimes we have to travel in many directions to realise that home is something we carry within us, wherever life takes us. I’m so glad the ending resonated with you.
