Prompt #446

Choose one or more to inspire your piece.

We are all made of stardust, trying to remember the sky.

Reality is a mirror polished by imagination.

To know yourself is to meet a stranger everyday.

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #446

Trying to Remember the Sky

We are all made of stardust,
trying to remember the sky.

Perhaps that is why
we keep looking upward.

Why a single star
in an otherwise empty night
can make us stop.

Why we search the darkness
for something familiar
without knowing what
we expect to find.

Maybe some part of us remembers.

Not with the mind.

Something older.

Something buried beneath
names and years,
bodies and borders,
beginnings and endings.

We came from stars.

Iron in our blood.
Calcium in our bones.
Carbon beneath our skin.

Ancient pieces of exploded suns
walking around pretending
we are ordinary.

And perhaps love remembers too.

When someone disappears
beyond the horizon we understand,
we still search for them.

In dreams.

In songs.

In feathers.

In strange coincidences.

In the star that suddenly seems
brighter than all the others.

We send our own little flares
into the darkness—

Are you there?

Sometimes there is no answer.

Sometimes the answer arrives
in a language only the heart understands.

A memory.

A feeling.

A warmth beside us
when nobody is there.

And perhaps we were never
trying to find our way back
to the stars at all.

Perhaps every light
we have ever loved
left a little of itself within us.

So when the night becomes unbearable,
we do what stars have always done.

We burn.

We shine.

We send a flare into the darkness
for someone else who has forgotten
where they came from.

And whisper—

Look up.
You are still part of the sky.

💜✨

Thank you, Reena 💜 That was one of my favourite parts to write too. There is something wonderful about thinking that we are made from ancient stars, yet spend our days believing we’re ordinary.

🤣🤣 Absolutely! Ancient pieces of exploded suns sound wonderfully poetic… as long as the exploding part happened a few billion years ago and very, very far away. 😂

This is such a beautiful, comforting piece, Maggie 💫✨ The idea that we’re made of ancient stardust, and that love sends its own quiet signals across the dark, is such a gentle way to hold grief. “You are still part of the sky” is going to stay with me 🤍

Thank you so much, Khadija 🤍

Your words mean a lot to me.

I think sometimes grief makes us search the darkness for those little signals that love hasn’t disappeared — it has only changed the way it reaches us. I’m so touched that “You are still part of the sky” stayed with you.

That’s such a beautiful way to put it love changing how it reaches us rather than disappearing entirely. It’s a gentle kind of comfort that doesn’t try to erase the loss, just holds it differently. Thank you for writing something that carries that. 💫🤍

Thank you, Khadija 🤍✨ I love the way you put that — holding the loss differently. Perhaps that is what healing really is. We don’t stop loving or remembering; we simply learn a different way to carry them with us.
