Have you ever regretted reading a book — which one and why?

Oh dear Lord…

School. 😂

There must have been several books I regretted reading, but there’s one small problem with today’s prompt:

I can’t remember any of them.

Not the titles.

Not the authors.

Not even the storylines.

Apparently my brain decided they weren’t important enough to keep. 🤣

When I was at school, we had books on the teaching plan that everyone was required to read.

And I think that was part of the problem.

I love reading.

Once I find a book or series I enjoy, I can disappear completely into that world. I’ve read enormous book series simply because I needed to know what happened next.

But there’s a huge difference between:

“I want to read this.”

and

“You have to read this because it’s on the curriculum.”

Some of those compulsory school books felt less like reading and more like an endurance test.

You’d read a chapter, turn the page and suddenly realise you hadn’t absorbed a single thing.

Then the teacher would ask:

“What do you think the author was trying to say here?”

Me:

“I have absolutely no idea.”

We have an expression in Norwegian:

“Inn det ene øret og ut det andre.”

In one ear and out the other.

Except these were books, so perhaps it was:

In through the eyes and straight back out again.

And apparently they went so thoroughly back out that, decades later, I can’t even give WordPress a title.

Maybe that’s the ultimate book review:

⭐☆☆☆☆

Would not read again.

Thank you so much for your beautiful words ❤️

      I really appreciate this.

I think every part of our journey teaches us something—even the books that apparently went straight through my eyes and disappeared forever.

Thank you for reading and for leaving such a lovely comment. 💜
