Where Love Goes
It’s the fifth Monday of the month, so this week let’s write a poem to this piece of music. Just let it play. Maybe put it on loop since it’s not too long and see what feelings form then write a poem and post it in the comments below.
Where Love Goes
There are melodies
that do not enter
through the ears.
They find the places
beneath the ribs,
where names are kept
after voices
have gone quiet.
And suddenly,
there you are.
Not as a memory.
Not quite.
More like a warmth
moving through a room
I cannot see,
a hand
I almost remember
how to hold.
Love is strange like that.
It refuses
to understand absence.
The heart still reaches
for what the eyes
can no longer find.
And grief—
grief is simply love
discovering
there is nowhere physical
left to go.
So it becomes tears.
It becomes music.
It becomes words
written at midnight.
It becomes looking
toward the sky
for reasons
we cannot explain.
Perhaps we never
really lose love.
Perhaps loss
only changes
the way we carry it.
And somewhere
between the first note
and the last,
I feel you—
close enough
to break my heart,
close enough
to remind me
why it was worth
breaking at all.
