The Princess, the Duke, and the Biscuit
Once there was a princess who had absolutely no interest in being rescued.
She was perfectly happy living alone in her little castle on the hill, where nobody complained if she stayed in her pyjamas until noon or ate cake for breakfast.
Her only companion was a ridiculously spoiled dog named Biscuit.
One morning, Biscuit found something beneath the princess’s favourite sheet.
A letter.
It announced that a duke would be arriving that afternoon to ask for her hand in marriage.
The princess gave a slight groan.
“Not another one.”
Biscuit barked in agreement.
At precisely three o’clock, the duke appeared at the castle gates on a magnificent white horse.
Unfortunately, the road leading to the castle curved sharply just before the entrance.
The horse turned.
The duke didn’t.
He passed straight over its head, landed in a rose bush, rolled through the gates and continued downhill in a spectacular display of royal dignity.
The princess stared.
Biscuit stared.
The horse stared.
Finally, the princess burst out laughing.
The duke, still tangled in roses, looked up and said,
“I suppose this isn’t quite the entrance I planned.”
“No,” she replied, trying desperately to stop laughing, “but it’s certainly the best one I’ve seen.”
She helped him to his feet.
They never married.
But they became excellent friends.
And whenever the duke visited, Biscuit sat proudly beside the princess at the castle gates.
Just in case he needed to watch the duke roll down the hill again.
Some fairy tales don’t need a wedding.
Sometimes a princess already has her castle, her freedom, and the perfect companion.
And frankly, that’s a pretty good happily ever after. 👑🐕💜
