velvet compass echo random rust silver shadow pebble stone drone clip dry
Wordle 772

Sunday Whirl – Wordle #772
30.08.2026
The silver compass had been sitting on the velvet lining of the box for as long as I could remember.
It didn’t point north.
That should probably have been my first clue.
One random Sunday morning, I noticed the needle trembling before turning toward the window.
“Fine,” I muttered. “Apparently we’re going somewhere.”
Outside, the air was dry, the ground scattered with volcanic stone and the occasional pebble crunching beneath my shoes.
The compass kept leading me farther from home.
Then I heard it.
A low drone overhead.
I looked up, expecting to see someone’s little flying camera, but there was nothing in the sky.
Only my shadow stretching across the path.
The compass needle suddenly stopped.
At my feet lay a strange stone, darker than the others, with something metallic sticking from beneath it.
I crouched and pulled.
Clip.
An old, rust-covered hair clip.
The moment I touched it, the sound disappeared.
Then came an echo.
Not from the mountains.
Not from the valley.
From somewhere inside my mind.
A woman’s laughter.
For just a second, I could almost see her standing on the path ahead of me.
Then she was gone.
I looked at the compass.
Its needle was pointing home.
I slipped the old clip into my pocket and smiled.
Perhaps some compasses aren’t meant to tell us where we’re going.
Perhaps they lead us to what was waiting to be remembered.
