Sleep — Rest in Peace
Sleep.
Today that word feels different.
Usually I would probably write something about not getting enough of it, staying awake far too late, or my brain suddenly deciding that bedtime is the perfect moment to give me seventeen new ideas.
But not today.
Today my mind went from sleep to rest.
Rest in peace.
Norway lost King Harald today.
A man who has been there for my entire life. A constant. Someone you don’t really imagine not being there until suddenly he isn’t.
And perhaps people are already tired of me writing about it.
But grief doesn’t check whether we’ve mentioned someone too many times.
It simply arrives.
Then tomorrow, August 29th, would have been Liam Payne’s 33rd birthday.
His second heavenly birthday.
Two completely different people.
Two completely different places in my heart.
Yet this weekend somehow holds them both.
One loss brand new.
One loss that has already travelled with me for almost two years.
And maybe that is what grief teaches us.
People leave this world, but love doesn’t suddenly go to sleep.
Memories don’t.
The things they gave us don’t.
They continue quietly in stories, photographs, songs, laughter, traditions and all those unexpected moments when someone crosses our mind.
So tonight, “sleep” doesn’t make me think about bedtime.
It makes me think about rest.
About peace.
About laying down the weight of this world.
Rest peacefully, Your Majesty. 🇳🇴
And Liam…
Happy heavenly birthday for tomorrow. 💜
May you both rest among the stars.
Neither forgotten.
Neither without love.
Rest in peace. 🙏💜
With love, coffee, poetry, and stardust,
